Wye Valley with ALPHA

  • 5th July – 9th July 2026
  • 4 days – Wye Valley

Join me in the beautiful Wye valley and together we will paint a mixture of subjects including buildings in the landscape at places like Tintern Abbey, Tintern Old Station, Tintern Parva and St.Briavel’s. We will also paint at Raglan Castle and possibly Monmouth. Subjects will include castles, old ruins, bridges, cottages and villages.

The objective will be for you to capture the scene before you with as little fuss as possible but with awareness of the important shapes and forms that describe the view and affording your work will take on a more dynamic appearance leading to that ‘wow’ factor that we all seek in our painting.

Dedham Hall 2026

  • 7th October – 10th October 2026
  • 4 days – Dedham Hall

This course is aimed at showing you how to capture landscapes of the rural scenes around Dedham Hall (constable country) with a direct and free approach.

We will be studio based and will work from photographic reference or sketches and the days will be themed to an aspect of painting that I believe will help you create dynamic results in your own work.

Demonstrations

Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to visit art clubs and societies and share at first hand the delight of painting pictures in fresh watercolour.

For most demonstrations I begin with an introduction to materials used and then discuss my painting approach and methods which takes about 30 minutes. I normally start to produce a half imperial painting, demonstrating the points previously discussed.

After a short break I continue with the painting to completion allowing for a question-and-answer session of the demonstration for attendees.

I am willing to travel to most locations although sometimes long distances from my home in Lancashire may necessitate an overnight stay.
