Patchings

Back in 2017 sat in my home studio surrounded by an array of completed work and filled with doubt as to whether it was of any value or just paint daubed on paper – I made a decision to ignore my inner voices and decided to put myself out there.

I entered local plein air painting competitions, approached and was accepted into a local gallery (Picture House in Burnley) and entered The Artist & Leisure Painter Patchings competition which I have very fortunately had a painting accepted for the last five years.

My message to you is: if you have doubts grab the bull by the horns and give it a go – who knows were it will lead the worst thing is you’ll get feedback on your work and what you need to do to move forward artistically.

I’ve posted my entries into Patchings over the last five years -some of which won prizes – an absolutely fantastic feeling and a big boost to my self confidence.

“Have you ever wondered what makes an award-winning painting, or indeed an award-winning painter? I had the pleasure of talking to Leisure Painter Award Winner 2022, Richard Green, a few weeks ago and you can leave what motivates him to draw and paint regularly, despite his busy full time job, on pages 13-17.”
